Poetry template

As part of our writing this term students are looking at poetry. In class we will be analysing different poems, completing comprehension activities relating to poetry and of course writing our own poems. We have been revising our knowledge of figurative language this week and students have started brainstorming different phrases (figurative language) to use in a poem about camp that will be coming up.

Today we focused on metaphors and similes. Students were required to write a poem about their family using the framework below. Some students need to complete these poems as part of their homework tonight, whilst majority of the class finished them during class time. The poems were very sweet and well thought out! I recommend you ask your child to read their poem to you if they can.

Line 1: My family is like _____.
Line 2: My (first family member) is a ______,
Line 3: Explain the metaphor.
Line 4: My (second family member) is a ______,
Line 5: Explain the metaphor.
Line 6: My (third family member) is a ______,
Line 7: Explain the metaphor.
Line 8: My (fourth family member) is a ______,
Line 9: Explain the metaphor.
Line 10: Repeat line 1.
Line 11: Explain the simile.
