Timetable and class expectations

On the very first day of Term 1, we brainstormed as a class what rules and expectations we have for the year. These were based on the CARES program (Consideration, Accountability, Respect, Empathy and Service) and were compiled into the list below.

Room 17 ‘CARES’ rules and expectations

We show Courtesy by always greeting each other in the mornings, showing good manners; such as pushing in our chairs and holding the door for others, by ensuring our belongings and classroom are neat; and by being inclusive of everyone in the classroom.

Accountability is always shown by Room 17, by being responsible and reliable. We do this in and out of the classroom by ensuring we are organised with our work, homework, extra responsibilities and work well in groups. Diaries are taken to every class and left on desks to help prepare us for High School. We know it is our responsibility to look after our own belongings and to make sure our parents are informed of what happens at school through the use of our diaries. Everyone makes mistakes, but we make sure we own up to them and apologise sincerely to others.

Everyone deserves to be shown Respect. We do this in Room 17 by looking after our own belongings and speaking to others with eye contact and a friendly manner. Each person has an opinion, and these may differ from our own, but we listen and acknowledge them. If we haven’t completed our homework, or are worried about something in the classroom, we ensure we speak to Mrs Geelhoed or Mr Butler before school, rather than wait to when they are collecting our work to give an excuse. When wanting to use other people’s belongings we always ask first and don’t take anything without permission. Most importantly, we show respect by speaking to ourselves in a positive way, helping to build our resilience.

We all deserve to be shown Empathy by trying to understand how others are feeling and making an effort to help. As Year 6 students, we know this relates to not only our class, but we also need to look out for other students at recess and lunchtime. To show empathy, we make sure we listen to what others are saying, apologise when we are in the wrong, accept apologies with grace and dignity; and acknowledge that everyone is different and won’t always have the same likes, opinions and behaviours as us.

Wembley Primary School shows Service regularly, but particularly when you are in Year 6. As a class, we promise to show service in our classroom by stepping up and doing jobs without needing to be asked, keeping our classroom clean and ensuring we conserve energy. Outside of the classroom we will act like true leaders of the school. As a Year 6 cohort, we will help to raise money by running fundraisers to help benefit the school and the community.

Please find the current time table for our classroom attached. Please keep in mind, classes may be swapped or moved around for a range of reasons. Each student will have their own up to date time table in their diaries to help them prepare for each class.

Mrs Geelhoed will be teaching Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week.
Mr Butler will be teaching each Tuesday.
