It has been wonderful to see most of the students in our class using their diaries to help organise their homework and time management at home over the past week. Students will be given several homework tasks over the year that will be due up to a week later, this is in preparation for High School where they will need to manage their time appropriately to get tasks completed.
Yesterday we spent some time with the Year 1 class meeting our buddies and helping them make Valentine's Day cards for their parents. Mrs Thompson and I were blown away by how mature and caring the Year 6's were towards the Year 1's. A testament to what a beautiful group we have in our class this year!
To continue the theme of Valentine's Day I have set a homework task for those students who want something extra this week, to find out the origin of Valentine's Day. I can't wait to hear all about what students have found out!
Spelling and reading have continued this week every night and students are expected to get their parents signature to ensure you are seeing their diaries. Don't forget our spelling test is this FRIDAY! We will be starting Maths groups next week, but for this week we have focused on the basics, which included a Maths terminology sheet that you may have seen your child completing as part of their homework this week. I have asked students to complete their comprehension work (Boy Overboard), if they hadn't completed it by yesterday, as homework due Friday. This really shouldn't take them long at all, if they used their time in class sensibly yesterday.
We have started our Inquiry theme 'Events that shape the world'. One of our first activities is for students to create a poster about 'The six events that shaped my life'. I have asked them all to discuss with you over this week what 6 events they would like to choose and find a picture or photo to go with each. We will be starting this activity on Monday, so the more prepared they are, the easier it will be. I have said they can pick one family member, but the other 5 should be events. Events can include; my first dance concert for students who love dancing, winning my first race in swimming, completing a music exam, the birth of a sibling, learning to draw, moving house/state, etc.
Just a quick reminder for all parents who wish to attend, our Class Meeting is next week on Wednesday. It would be fantastic to see you there if you can make it!
