Writing and Goal setting

Today in class we spoke in depth about what long term and short term goals are. Students wrote 2 short term goals they would like to achieve by the end of Term 1. They also wrote 3 long term goals that they would like to achieve by later in the year. We discussed how goals need to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. Please ask your child what their goals were and how they are planning to achieve them.

During writing today, students were introduced to VCOP. This is a fantastic tool to help improve their writing and to help them set goals. VCOP stands for Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation. Here are the pyramids below. Students should be aiming to be at the bottom two levels of the pyramids with each writing piece. They will use these pyramids whilst they are writing, and to edit their work to improve (up level) their writing. Feel free to print these off to help your child with their writing at home as well.
