Bunny Bottom Cookie Challenge

In class today students were given a fun Easter recipe that was very hard to read. Together in groups, they worked out what ingredients, materials and steps were needed and added a picture of what they thought the outcome would be. The aim of this activity was for students to practice skimming and scanning for important information, highlighting key points in different colours, re-writing steps in order clearly and to recognise that in their own writing being too wordy can be confusing for the reader.

Below is the original recipe in case anyone would like to make the cookies for Easter.

Bunny Bottom Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  •  Tub of frosting
  • Packet of marshmallows
  •  Any other lollies or cake decorations you would like

Directions

Ready in 25 mins

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
  4. Once your cookies are cool, spread a thin layer of white frosting over the cookie.
  5. Cut a marshmallow in half and place on an angle either side for the bunny feet.
  6. Use either a mini marshmallow or cut a small piece of marshmallow for the tail
